Myanmar’s quest for democracy

Uploaded by AlJazeeraEnglish on Jul 22, 2010

Myanmar’s military rulers have said they will hold the country’s first elections in two decades later this year.

But many are sceptical that the poll will be free and fair.

Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party won by a landslide in 1990 but the government would not hand over power.

Al Jazeera has a special correspondent inside the country who we cannot name for her own safety. She recently met with three women running as democratic candidates. (July 23, 2010)
